How to free up phone storage without losing your photos
Photos and videos take up the most space. The safe way to free it up is to have a copy in the cloud before deleting anything.
1. See what takes up the most space
On Android: Settings → Storage. On iPhone: Settings → General → iPhone Storage. Photos, videos and WhatsApp or Telegram files are almost always at the top.
2. Upload your photos and videos to Mi Nube
- Create your free account (10 GB) and install the Android app, or open minube.space in your browser.
- Android: select photos in your gallery, tap Share and choose Mi Nube. Or in the app, tap Add → "Photos and videos".
- iPhone: open minube.space in Safari, tap Add → "Photos and videos" and pick photos from your library.
- Long videos upload in parts: if the connection drops, the upload continues where it left off.
3. Check they're there
Open the Photos tab in Mi Nube and make sure the thumbnails show and the videos play. Only then delete them from your phone.
4. Delete from your phone and empty the trash
Delete the photos and videos you've already uploaded from your phone's gallery. Note: the gallery usually has its own trash ("Recently Deleted"), and the space isn't freed until you empty it.
More tips that help
- WhatsApp: Settings → Storage and data → Manage storage, and delete forwarded videos and large files.
- Turn off automatic photo and video downloads in WhatsApp and Telegram.
- Remove apps you don't use and clear the cache of the biggest ones.
